Frank Miller's Sin City: A Dame to Kill For | Rotten Tomatoes (1) David Sims AV Club To call Sin City noir is to misunderstand the genre, as perhaps Miller does. Each story ends pretty simply-in brutal fighting and murder-and lacks genuine intrigue or ambiguity. Sep 22, 2016 Full Review Frank Miller's Sin City: A Dame to Kill For | Rotten Tomatoes (2) Jason Bailey Flavorwire The duration between the first film and its sequel doesn't fully explain the new film's flaws, it's quite instructive when examining the reactions to them. Jun 18, 2016 Full Review Frank Miller's Sin City: A Dame to Kill For | Rotten Tomatoes (3) David Stratton The Australian There's a bleak beauty to all of this, but also there's a reliance on stereotypes, male and female, that, while they come directly from the source material, are starting to become irritating. Audience Member Awesome Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/31/24 Full Review Josues R I won't lie when I say I only watched this film for Lady Gaga. That being said, my old friend wanted to watch this film and absolutely loved it! I wish Gaga had a longer cameo, but she embodied the character for the short time she was on screen. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/14/24 Full Review Marco Antonio P "Frank Miller's Sin City: A Dame To Kill For" is a visually stunning and thrilling noir masterpiece that keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. The film's unique visual style, reminiscent of its predecessor, immerses you in the gritty world of Basin City like never before. The cast delivers powerful performances, with each character adding depth and complexity to the story. Director Robert Rodriguez's masterful direction brings Frank Miller's graphic novel to life in a way that is both faithful and innovative. It's a must-see for fans of the genre and a testament to the enduring allure of Sin City. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/02/24 Full Review Axel X I had a very brief conversation with my dad over the first and second "Sin City." My dad loved the first movie and hated the second saying: "The second one was stupid."; or something along those lines. I hadn't actually seen the second one. I saw the first one and hated it. If you wish to see my review on that please check the description at the end I'd highly recommend that all of you read that review before reading this one since I'm going to be making comparisons between the two movies. "Sin City: A Dame To Kill For" is one of the best movies I've seen in a while. But the reason I liked this one is mainly because it's not guilty of the sins of the first movie. The only really big Sin that "A Dame To Kill For" is guilty of is for almost the entire movie I couldn't f*cking tell if this was a prequel or a sequel. Now that I've done a little research online I realize now that it was a combination prequel and a sequel. Because there are events that happen in this movie that I knew this had to have happened before the first one. And there were events that most definitely had to have occurred after the first "Sin City." And it was confusing, but "A Dame To Kill For" was still pretty cool. I really liked the cinematography of this movie. There were two really amazing shots in this movie that I was a big fan of: The part where we get an extreme close up of the cards being shuffled in the back room and the part where Dwight is at Ava's house for the first time and he's watching as Ava dives into the pool naked. I couldn't contain myself when I saw that and honest to god I said to myself out loud: "Man that looks cool!" I'm starting to realize that one reason why I didn't like the first "Sin City" is because I think that movie just had such a bleak ending for most of the stories. At least in this one you get to see the good guys win more so than in the first one. I think the only story that I wasn't a big fan of was the one Johnny's a part of. Not because I didn't like his character or the storyline of this part mind you, but because his storyline just felt so pointless. I mean he comes to see his father, he got his ass kicked, his girlfriend got killed and then he gets killed himself. I think that this was the most disappointing part of the movie because nothing but misery happens here. I mean he wins at the tables but other than that he doesn't win anything else. It wasn't bad, but just felt so pointless despite the fact that I liked Johnny's parts of the movie. My main issues with the first "Sin City" were that: Physics wasn't a thing, and that the pacing was way too fast. I mean Marv is one of the characters who is just a big screw you to physics in the world of "Sin City." And I took issue with the fact that he was super-strong in the first "Sin City." Here I guess I didn't mind so much because he wasn't doing it nearly as often as he was in the first "Sin City." I'm very glad that this movie was a lot smarter than the first "Sin City" the pacing improved A LOT when you compare the pacing of "A Dame To Kill For" to the pacing of the first "Sin City." I am more than satisfied with this movie.
