Freedom may one day come to Quebec considering they all have “3 tiers” ex: Rogers-Fido-Chatr. So in essence it could be Vidéotron-Freedom-Fizz.

Shouldn't drop. CRTC now requires the incumbents to facilitate seamless handoff of calls from the regional carrier's network.

What does their local coverage have anything to do with foreign countries coverage?

I mean, if they can't get their act together here, how can we trust them to have partners that have their act together?
Sounds like it's been better since the merger/purchase though.

EDIT: seems like my plan has reset including my data. I'm now seeing 5G and the speeds have much more range, I think I saw at least 100mbps / 20 mbps while travelling on hwy 7 during the snowstorm at like 1:45pm on Thursday. I'm at bayview and hwy 7 right now at night and the upload is better than it was before but still only 2 mbps (still faster than 1mbps I had before), it's not the end of the world for a zoom call, but like 5 mbps would have no worries even 3 mbps would make me feel much more at east.
Just signed up, and I now remember why I switched away from Freedom a few years ago Not much has changed with connection and speed. The plan does not work well for a hotspot for work. I'm at the yonge and hwy 7 area where there is coverage but it will drop to 3G or no data sometimes and I get disconnected while talking to a customer D:

Fido likely is on the way out. They killed off their internet division. It's the same market conditions for the 3rd party wireless provider with most 3rd parties now owned by the big 3. I expect Fido to make a complete exit in the next 3 years.

When you have an LTE connection, does the phone stay on LTE if you place a call?
Without working VoLTE the device will not have access to 700MHz LTE B13, which is the best propagating band on Freedom.

I will throw a party when fido dies. they've always been evil and they made me cry with how extremely rude they were both on the phone and in store when i was an anxious broke student and new to the country like 25 years ago. i still hold a grudge lol.

I just edited my original post. now the slowest upload speed i'm seeing is 2mbps, much better than 1mbps, but I wouldn't mind having 5mbps download for even 3-5 mbps upload consistently.

Interesting... I wonder if this is the reason why I'm getting lots of offers lately to switch from Fido to Rogers.
P.S. Even though this is a good deal, I tried Freedom before and their connection (at least in my area) was horrible.

Signed up online, got sim. Followed steps, chose to keep old number and... "Oops! Something went wrong!" Then I noticed my account had a new phone number and was fully activated. Took 3 hours of back and forth calls to Telus to get my number ported.
Glad the deal is worth it, but my god their LTE is awful. Same device I had telus service with an good lord. I am getting 2/3Mb/s with Freedom and 0.66up. I live in Toronto, lol.

A new line is first activated on a temp number, pending the port-in.
2-3mbps is hardly typical for Freedom. Try the subreddit for advice and feedback from active GTA users.
You may be asked diagnostic questions. eg. working VoLTE? device? compatibility profile? VoLTE Roaming capable? data roaming enabled? specific area?

Enable international roaming on your phone. Now you can roam on both Canada and USA for free AFAIK. Just turn roaming back off if you fly to Europe or Asia.

If I’m located in the nationwide coverage area, they will cancel my service if I use it mainly in that area?

They may suspend if the majority of your usage is off the Freedom network 3 months running..
Use WiFi Calling when you have WiFi access, that counts as Freedom network usage, anywhere in the world.

Does that mean if I'm roaming internationally and have wifi, I won't get charged roaming fee for making a call then?
